Perth

Perth is the capital of Western Australia and faces the Indian Ocean. It has hot, dry summers, free public transport on Sundays with a card and, very close by, Fremantle, Rottnest Island and beaches such as Cottesloe. Here we gather what we have been able to confirm, with prices seen in November 2026.

Getting around

Transperth runs the trains, buses and ferries in the Perth area. Since 1 January 2026, the Go Anywhere fare lets you travel across the whole network for three hours. It costs A$3.50 in cash or with contactless payment (Visa, Mastercard or digital wallet), and A$3.15 or A$2.80 with a SmartRider card, depending on the concession. Trips of up to 3.2 km cost A$2.40. With SmartRider, daily spending is capped at the DayRider price, A$7. Every Sunday, travel is free with SmartRider or contactless, but you must tap on and off; it does not include night services after midnight on Saturday. CAT buses are free in central Perth and in Joondalup. The city centre also has a Free Transit zone: buses are free if you start and finish inside it, and so are trains between City West, Elizabeth Quay and Claisebrook with SmartRider or contactless. Fremantle has a separate free zone while its bridge, the Fremantle Traffic Bridge, is closed. The train reaches the airport on the Airport line. To leave Perth, Transwa, South West Coach Lines and Integrity Coachlines operate.

Weather

A Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. From December to February, average maximums range from 29.6 to 31.7 °C and minimums from 16.6 to 18.4 °C. From June to August, average maximums range from 18.5 to 19.5 °C and minimums from 8.1 to 8.7 °C. About 724 mm of rain falls each year, and around 78% of it between May and September. On many summer afternoons a south-westerly sea breeze arrives, known as the Fremantle Doctor. From September to November the weather is usually dry and warm, and it is whale season. The figures are for 1993 to 2020 from the Perth Metro station, taken from a third-party summary, because we could not check the table on the Bureau of Meteorology site.

Work

Jobs and Skills WA, part of the Western Australian Government, names construction, clean energy, defence, resources, aged care, health, agriculture, technology, and tourism and hospitality among its sectors. In and around Perth, tourism shows up in museums, attractions, markets, ferries and hostels like the ones on this page. This list does not guarantee vacancies: it only shows sectors with a presence. Jobs and Skills has centres in Perth, Fremantle, Joondalup, Midland, Rockingham, Armadale and other places. Its website does not say whether they help people on a Working Holiday visa. Phone: 13 64 64.
