You can go by shuttle, public bus, taxi or rideshare (a car with a driver booked through an app, such as Uber). The shuttle goes to the city hotels. The bus stop is about 600 metres from the terminal, about 8 minutes on foot. The airport website publishes no price or journey time.
Everything was seen on 5 November 2026 on the airport's website, except where we say otherwise. We could not check the Northern Territory Government website. The city is in the Darwin page.
What are the options and how much do they cost?
There are four, listed in alphabetical order, without ranking them:
| Option | Adult price | Journey time | Times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public bus | Unconfirmed | Not published | Unconfirmed |
| Darwin City Airport Shuttle | Not published | Not published | Timed to the arrival of the main flights |
| Taxi | Not published | Not published | Not published |
| Rideshare (Uber) | Not published | Not published | Not published |
How does the shuttle work?
It is a shared service to the city hotels, timed to the arrival of the main flights, according to the airport. The booking link goes to Cruise Transit, a Darwin company.
- Destinations the airport lists: Hilton Garden Inn and Hilton Darwin, Mindil Beach Resort Casino, DoubleTree by Hilton Esplanade, Adina and Vibe at Darwin Waterfront, Novotel Darwin CBD and Mantra Pandanas, Oaks Elan and Palms City Resort, Rydges Darwin Central and Darwin City Hotel. The sales desk lists others.
- Booking: at Cruise Transit or at the desk outside baggage belt 1, near the exit.
- Where to catch it: in the rideshare and Uber lane, in the passenger drop-off area.
- Contact: airport desk, 08 7936 8694.
- Next change: the airport announces door-to-door trips to the hotels "in the coming weeks", without a date.
The Cruise Transit booking page we opened shows no prices.
Tourism Australia, on a page from March 2026, names another company for this shuttle: Blue Taxi Company. Here we use what the airport says, as it runs the terminal. The airport also has a notice about the new service, from March 2026, which we could not open.
Where is the public bus?
The stop is outside the terminal, on Henry Wrigley Drive, next to the Mercure Darwin Airport Resort hotel. According to the airport, it is about 600 metres and 8 minutes on foot.
Tourism Australia confirms that buses do not come into the terminal. It says they link the airport with the Casuarina interchange and that you pay with a Tap and Ride card or a single ticket.
The airport refers readers to the Government page, how to catch a bus to the airport, for routes and times. There is also the fares page. We could not open either of them, so we do not say here which route it is or how much it costs.
The City of Darwin adds that buses link the centre, Casuarina and Palmerston, and that the NT Bus Tracker app shows whether they are on time.
How do taxis and rideshare work?
There is no public figure for what they cost to the centre. What the airport does publish:
- 13Cabs: 13 22 27.
- City Palmerston & Rural: +61 8 8980 3700.
- Darwin Radio Taxi: 13 10 08.
- Uber: you are picked up in the rideshare and Uber lane, in the passenger drop-off area.
Tourism Australia also lists GoCatch as a local app. That page gives a journey time by taxi, but we do not copy it because it is not from the airport or an operator.
What else is there at the airport?
There are hire cars and other private transfers, according to the same page:
- Hire cars: Avis, Bargain Car Rentals, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Redspot, Sixt and Thrifty.
- Cars with a driver, by booking: the airport lists several private transfer companies on its page.
- Coaches for groups: Metro Coach Services, Grand Touring Coaches, Greyhound Australia and Coach Charters Australia.
- Hotel shuttle: the Darwin Airport Resorts one is only for its guests.
What have we not been able to confirm?
The most sought-after details are missing:
- Shuttle price. It does not appear on the pages we opened.
- Public bus route, times and price. We could not open the Government pages cited above.
- Price and journey time of taxis and rideshare. The airport does not publish them.
- Which company runs the shuttle today. The airport and Tourism Australia do not agree.
What comes after the airport?
Next is usually somewhere to sleep and a phone. These guides cover it:
