Tourism Australia puts it at 88 days. According to third parties, it does not count towards the country's cap. On 17 September 2026 the Government also announced a ballot with 45,000 places for the second visa, with no published start date.

What else should you know?

According to third parties, Australia confirmed the change in Jakarta on 15 July 2026, at the proposal of Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration. An SDUWHV letter from a previous year does not reserve a place or give priority. The figure of 5,500 that circulates refers to letters from October 2025, not visa places.

What we could not confirm

  • We could not check the official Home Affairs page or the Indonesian SDUWHV portal. The ballot, the 5,000 cap and the expected opening are confirmed only by third parties citing Home Affairs.
  • There is no registration date, fee, selection timetable or deadline to apply after selection.
  • We have not found the rules that add Indonesia to the official list of ballot countries.
  • The governments have not explained how the SDUWHV letter will work alongside the ballot. The withdrawal of the letter is confirmed only by third parties.
  • The Embassy checklist has no date and does not mention the ballot, so it may change when the rules are published.
  • The 3 and 6 months are in the Migration Regulations. The 88 and 179 days have only been seen at Tourism Australia and in third-party sources.
